3 Amazing things you didn't know

In our everyday life, it's not very long ago we often take for granted computers, the internet, etc. But I think it's worth knowing a couple amazing things that our poor devices do without us ever knowing.

1. Bits, Bytes, & Size.

Today people will laugh off at a 16GB phone, saying its old lol. Well here is the math, in every gigabyte(GB), there's 1024 megabytes (MB), 1024 kilobytes (KB) in a megabyte, and 1024 bytes in a kilobyte. In the lowest you have 8 bits in a byte.
But why does this matter? Each bit of data is made up of eight separate floating gates. depicted as two physical transistors. Which can record themselves as either "1" or "0". This means the 16gb storage you laugh at for being small has 1,099,511,627,776 individual gates arrayed inside under that bezel. Heheh crazy engeering, we need 1TB phone right?

2. Everything you stream or play online is actually on your device.

Today it's all about Netflix and Cloud computing, whatever that is. But listen carefully, every time you stream a video, its actually playing off your device. Every internet media file has to make a local copy of itself on your device, first. Good example is that white buffering bar on YouTube. That's the amount of video that has been copied to local cache, in other words the amount you can watch if your internet connection were to die.

3. Distance data travels

Click on this link which should take you to facebook. With one click you have fetched a bunch of data from Servers possibly 6000km away. Your request has travelled from your device through network towers, up to local data centres all the way through all the "fibres and connections" that are there covering the 6000km and back again in around 0.1seconds (depending on how best your internet conn is)
Your body takes around 0.15 of a second for a signal to pass from fingers, up your spinal cord to the brain and back down again.

Anyways looking forward to more article requests. NB: Parts of this article has come from different subjects from other forums.
